Recreational (U4-U19)

Recreational is our entry level program designed for players who are new to the game, within this program there are two different divisions; D4 (U4-U10) and D3 (U11-U19).

SIGN UP: Spring 2025 Recreational Soccer

With over 1500 players competing annually, our in-house program for U4-U12 players is the foundation of the club. We also have numerous U13-U19 teams competing in local area leagues.

Recreational soccer focuses on the FUNdamentals, blending essential skills with character development like teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Players are assigned to teams in a variety ways: they can return to their previous team, request to play with a friend/coach, or be placed with kids from their neighborhood or school during registration.

Please check the calendar for the return-to-team deadline, as team placement can’t be guaranteed after this date. Remember, no tryouts are required for Recreational soccer.

Recreation D4 (U4 - U10)

All Division 4 games take place at the T&C Sports Complex, usually on Saturdays. Here’s the new block game schedule for U4-U10 teams.

PRACTICE INFORMATION

Please note that practice days and times for U6-U10 players cannot be requested before registration. However, during registration, you can indicate a day of the week when you are unavailable for practice. The specific practice day and time will be set by the Volunteer Parent Coach.

To guarantee your preferred practice day, consider volunteering as a coach. Your assigned coach will reach out with details about practice scheduling the week before the first session.

For U4 and U5 teams, there are no weekday practices; they will have a session before their weekend games. Most U6-U10 teams practice once a week, typically at T&C, with available time slots from 5:00 to 6:15 PM or 6:30 to 7:45 PM.

For general questions about Recreational Soccer please email Dan Rawlinson our Recreational Soccer Director. For questions about player placement in specific divisions please email the age group commissioner below.

Recreational Coaches

For 50 years our Recreational program has been built upon volunteer involvement. From Coaches to Assistants, Commissioners and Game Day Helpers. It takes a village and we could not do it without you. Many thanks to those who step up each season to help make things work for the kids.

Recreational teams are coached by Volunteer Parent Coaches who have passed a Kid Safe background check and completed the necessary child safety courses required by US Soccer. If you are interested in coaching a Recreational team please visit our Coach’s Corner webpage for more information here.

Recreational D3 (U11 - U19)

D3 teams compete either in-house or in the local area (CAYSA) league. Most U11-U12 teams compete in-house which means all games are played at T&C. U13-U19 teams are placed in the CAYSA league. In this league you can expect travel within the Greater Austin area for games, depending on where the other teams are located and whether the game is Home or Away. Half the games, the home games, will be played at the T&C Sports Complex.

Teams practice twice-a-week with their parent volunteer coach for 9 weeks throughout the season. Typically on a Mon & Wed or Tues & Thurs from 5 – 6:30pm or 6:30-8pm. Practice time and day is decided by the coach.

We do not have teams in all U11-U19 age groups as some of the older age groups have lower numbers. Once general registration has closed we will begin to form the teams and your coach will reach out with more information. If you are interested in coaching please visit the Coach’s Corner page here for more information. For any other team placement questions please reach out to your age group Commissioner below.

Recreational Socer FAQ's

Is Recreational Soccer appropriate for beginners?

Yes. This is our entry level program for those who are new to the game or just playing for fun.

How many players are on a team?

  • U4, U5 & U6 (3v3) roster size 4-6
  • U7 & U8 (4v4) roster size 6-8
  • U9 & U10 (7v7) roster size 8-12
  • U11 & U12 (9v9) roster size 12-14
  • U13 & U14 (11v11) roster size 14-18
  • U15 – U19 (11v11) roster size 16-20

When will practices be held?

U4 & U5 do not practice during the week but may get together on a weekend before a game. U6-U10 teams practice once during the week with their coach who will let the team know when practice is. All players have access to Skills Training which takes place once a week for 6 weeks throughout the season, more information here.

Where will practices be held?

At Town & Country Sports Complex. Once your child is placed on a team and assigned a coach your coach will notify you of your practice time and field number. Practices are typically held one day during the week, Monday through Thursday somewhere around 5 or 6pm.

When do we get the practice schedule?

You will receive your practice schedule once your child has been placed on a team and a volunteer parent coach has stepped up or been assigned to the team. It is the coach who decides when the team practices and then notifies the team. You should find this out the week before practice begins.

What if the assigned team's practice time/day doesn't fit our schedule?

With over 1500 recreational players playing at T&C each year and the heavy reliance on volunteer parent coaches it would be impossible for us to assign players to teams based on parents schedules. The best way to choose your practice day is to volunteer to coach. If you cannot make practice please reach out to your coach and let them know. One thing that is set before the season starts is Skills Training, more information here.

Where are the games played?

The games for Recreational D4 (U14-U10) are all at Town & Country Sports Complex. Recreational D3 (U11-U19) home games are at Town & Country Sports Complex and away games may be played at other teams/clubs locations in and around the greater Austin area.

Where do I view the live game schedule?

On your Sports Engine app or online account. Once your coach has received the season schedule they will post it into SE. You will also receive a link to an online schedule in TC Fields during the first week of practice.

Will my child get medals or trophies at the end of the season?

Yes. Recreational D4 (U4-U10) players all receive a medal at the end of the season. The coach of a team parent can collect the medals from the green soccer shed next field #20.

Will there be travel involved?

Travel is only required for D3 (U11-U19) teams as they compete in CAYSA D3 not our in-house D4 league. Travel is required for roughly 50% of the games, typically 4-5. games per season. Travel is in and around the greater Austin area.

Can my child play up an age group?

There are some cases where we allow players to play up an age group with friends or buddies. For safety reasons players are not allowed to play more than one age group up. E.g. U9 can play with U10 but a U8 cannot play U10.

How do we register for Select Soccer?

Select Soccer consists of two main programs; Premier (paid coaches) and Competitive (parent coaches). Tryouts are required for all teams in these programs regardless of division. Tryouts take place every May for annual positions on teams, we do have some players join prior to the Spring season also. If you are interested in joining a Select Soccer team please email our Soccer Director and he will put you in touch with the appropriate coach.

What is the difference between Rec. and Select?

Recreational Soccer is our entry level program and does not require a tryout. Select Soccer consists of two main programs Premier and Competitive, both require tryouts to join a team. Recreational teams compete in CAYSA D3, Select teams compete in CAYSA D2 and WDDOA

When are the games played?

Games are played on weekends throughout the season, typically a Saturday but sometimes a Sunday. You will receive your 8 game schedule for the season during your first week of practice. If any games are cancelled due to the weather we will attempt to reschedule.

When is my child ready for Academy?

Great question. Our Academy program is for U8, U9 & U10 players who are experienced in soccer and are looking for more in terms of development and competition. You can find out more information about our Academy program here.
